Our updated master plan for the church renovation focuses on the immediate and the future appearance of our worship space following the desire expressed by our parishioners. During the conceptual planning of this project, a sampling of the recommendations of our parishioners shows that parishioners want to see a worship space that looks like a church at first sight. Our parishioners indicated the value in seeing that we make our sanctuary a beautiful presence of the Lord. Hence, the beautification of our worship space as an honor to the Lord stands out as an important element of what we intend to achieve in our church renovation. Parishioners want to see a church building with all the defining features of a Catholic worship space. Right now, it is quite difficult for visitors to identify the front of our church. The appearance and height of the front of a church reflect its dignity, “they have the ability to remind people of Christ's presence as the Way that leads to the Father” (Built of Living Stones: Art, Architecture and Worship, Para. 97).
Parishioners have also expressed the desire for a drop-off area with a covered walkway where people, especially those with disabilities and the aged can be dropped off in case of bad weather or for enhanced accessibility. Our renovation plans to achieve this goal. Attention to our Narthex was also recommended. The Narthex of a church is a place of welcome, it “helps believers to make the transition from everyday life to the celebration of the liturgy, and after the liturgy, it helps them return to daily life to live out the mystery that has been celebrated” (Built of Living Stones, Para. 95). To create a welcoming environment, we’re expanding and beautifying our Narthex to enhance community fraternity.
This renovation includes several other parishioners’ recommendations. Our building committee in conjunction with the project manager, architects and general contractors have developed an updated plan for our project. See below for how our church will look when all renovation phases are complete.
