The Catholic Church emphasizes readiness and disposition, not age, in the preparation for and reception of a Sacrament. The first step to sacramental readiness is through faith formation, beginning in the child’s early years and continuing throughout their school years.
Although Confirmation, within the Diocese of Dallas, is generally received in eighth grade, we recognize that children learn at different times and in different ways. Additionally, we acknowledge the dynamics that make up each family also vary. Understanding all of these variables and in conjunction with Canon Law, we are moving away from a 2-year process and into a ‘readiness’ process for sacramental preparation.
